R-SIM iPhone 4S Unlock Not Working? Full Instructions How-to-Use & Troubleshooting Guide

This guide will show you how to use R-SIM to unlock your iPhone 4S. If you’ve got everything setup, simply follow the instructions below. Do you need one? Order now from our online store.
I must admit that the R-SIM interposer unlock for iPhone 4S is far from perfect unlike the ultrasn0w unlock, but it gives iPhone 4S owners the ability to use their iPhone as a phone again. Well, at least until this product becomes more mature or better solutions have been developed.
Ready? See the steps below.
Manual Mode – Selecting Your Service Provider Manually – Recommended

Before you begin, setup your iPhone 4S with the R-SIM. Turn off your iPhone 4S.
1. Switch on your iPhone 4S.
2. Go to Settings, wait until the phone app turned from light green to solid green.
3. Go to Phone > SIM Applications.
4. Tap on “Country & Operators” then select your appropriate service provider which your iPhone 4S is locked to (default is AT&T). For instance, if yours is locked to AT&T, then choose MODE 1 AT&T.

5. Go back to SIM Application menu by tapping the left arrow on top.
6. Tap on “ENTER 112 Mode.”

7. Wait for the Accept Screen to come up then tap “Accept”. Go to the main menu, wait for 5 seconds then dial 112. Once connected, do not hang up.
8. Slowly eject your SIM card, then push the SIM card back into the iPhone again. Wait for the iPhone to hang up itself or hang up after you see the “no service” on the top left screen.

9. Your iPhone will start searching for the network. If you see “No Service”, continue waiting until your service provider name appears. Done!
Note: If you turn off your iPhone, You would need to do these steps again. Don’t be discouraged, it takes practice and you will soon master it after a few times! How often do you turn off your iPhone anyway?
*******
Automatic Mode (I’ll need to verify with the manufacturer the advantage of this mode)

Before you begin, setup your iPhone 4S with the R-SIM. Turn off your iPhone 4S.
1. Switch on your iPhone 4S.

2. Wait till the phone app turned from light green to solid green.
3. Go to Settings > Phone > SIM Applications.

4. Tap on “Country & Operators” then select your appropriate service provider which your iPhone 4S is locked to (default is AT&T). For instance, if yours is locked to AT&T, then choose MODE 1 AT&T.

5. Go back to the previous screen and select Auto Mode. Turn off your iPhone.

6. Turn on your iPhone. Wait for the Accept Screen to appear then tap “Accept”. Wait for 5 seconds then dial 112. Once connected, do not hang up.
7. Slowly eject your SIM card, then push the SIM card back into the iPhone again. Wait for the iPhone to hang up itself or hang up after you see “no service” on the top left screen.
8. Your iPhone will start searching for the network. If you see “No Service”, continue waiting until your service provider name appears. Done!
Additional Notes
1 . If your iPhone doesn’t show the service provider, you can dial a workable phone number, once connected, wait until the phone hangs up itself.

2. If you cannot find your mobile service provider under “Country & Operators”, you can enter the Country (MCC) and Service Provider (MNC) manually under “Edit Mode”. We will publish a complete list here soon or you can email us for information (customers only).

3. AT&T iPhone 4S will require jailbreaking because the APN settings will not show once unlocked. Once jailbroken with GreenPois0n Absinthe, install “TetherMe” via Cydia. You will have the APN settings back.
4. Keep coming back as I’ll continue to update this tutorial and will post a video very soon.

Latest News :4.11.08 Unlock Method Re-written, Simplified & Less Technical for iphone 4

In case you missed the news last weekend, an “unknown” hacker hamzah_akram had finally released his unlock method. We decide to re-write the steps as the one written by hamzah was thought to be confusing, unclear or simply too technical for many people.

Please note that I have not yet tested the steps below due to time constrains as we’re extremely occupied with logic board repairs. The steps were re-written based on my technical understanding of how the “unlock” works. Special thanks too djClint, “Taylor” and hamzah_akram himself for proof-reading the steps.
Requirements
  • Jailbroken iPhone 4 with baseband 4.11.08 (US AT&T model is used for this test).
  • Working official carrier SIM card (AT&T SIM card)
  • SIM card with constant data availability. Data must be active all the time (China Mobile SIM card is used for this test - use your own SIM card)
  • SAM Preference installed via Cydia. Click here on how to install SAM Preference.
Before You Begin…
  • Turn on WiFi.
  • Go to Settings > General > Network and turn on both Data Roaming and Cellular Data.
  • Go to Settings > Turn off Location Services.
  • Go to Settings> General > International > Region Format > The country should match the country of which the iPhone is locked to.
Steps
Attention: Don’t get confused – the instructions below are written for China Mobile network. Anything that has reference to China Mobile, change it to your own service provider.

1. Launch SAM Preference. Tap on home button (this will make it run in the background).
2. Go to http://www.unlockit.co.nz and download your unofficial carrier profile (China Mobile). Use the example below if you’re in China using China Mobile. Use your own country mobile service provider APN settings.

2. Insert AT&T SIM card and dial any number. If you see No Service, dial 112 and hang up after 5 seconds.
3. Go to Settings > Carrier and turn off auto search and then select China Mobile. You will get a message that says “Restricted network … ”. Hit Dismiss.
4. Go to Settings > Turn on airplane mode.
5. Quickly go to SAM > Utilities and Hit De-activate iPhone and (clear push) then hit Revert lockdown.
6.  Go back to main SAM settings and disable Subscriber Artificial Module.
7. Forget Wireless Network and turn off Ask to Join Networks.
8. Go to Cydia > Manage > Sources then “bingner” then uninstall SAM. Don’t “restart springboard” just yet.
9. After SAM is uninstalled, tap on home button, go to Settings then forget the Wi-Fi network that’s currently connected. Turn off  ‘Ask to Join Network.’
10. Make sure Airplane mode is turned on.
11. Eject the AT&T SIM card and hit OK when you see ‘No SIM Card Installed.’
12. Go back to Cydia and prepare to insert China Mobile SIM card.
13. Tap “Restart Springboard” and quickly insert China Mobile SIM card.
14. You will see the regular Activation Screen with (E) on the top left corner. Wait for 30 seconds.
15. Turn off your iPhone and then turn it on again. You will see the same activation screen with one signal bar and (E) data connection.
16. Tap on “use cellular connection” and wait 5 to 8 seconds.
17. Eject your SIM card and then quickly reinsert it. You will be redirected to the Home screen! You should now see a full signal bar with China Mobile network.
18. Quickly call China Mobile’s customer service hotline number (10086)  for 1 minute.  (“auto reply services center” of China Mobile)
19. Finally, go to Settings > General > About and check your carrier: it must be “Carrier 11.0” instead of “Carrier Lab 11.0″ or something else.
That’s it folks! Please have a go and let us know how it goes. Tech blogs: If you decide to copy and paste this, be sure to provide a link back. Thank you for your attention and support.
If it works, please do share or let us know where we missed.

TPSIM Interposer: Phone 4S /4 Unlock on Any Basebands with TPSIM Interposer ?

Phone 4S /4 Unlock on Any Basebands with TPSIM Interposer

iPhone Dev Team is yet to release the unlock for iPhone 4S, but another company known as ChinaSn0w Dev (Chinese Company) promises to build an unlocking tool called TPSIM a lot like GEVEY Turbo SIM. TPSIM, the latest SIM interposer can unlock iPhone 4S on basebands 1.0.11, 1.0.13 and 1.0.14 and iPhone 4 basebands 1.59.00, 2.10.04, 3.10.01, and 4.10.01.

TPSIM Supporting Firmware:

TPSIM will unlock all GSM iPhone 4 running on all firmware earlier than iOS 5.0 but will not unlock iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0 / 5.0.1 as yet fails to support baseband 4.11.08. It will unlock iPhone 4S running iOS 5, 5.0.1 (both basebands).

Thus far, none of Gevey SIM variations are actually able to unlock iPhone 4S and it also uses the emergency number 112 to be dialed once. Though hardware unlock TPSIM works on equally like Gevey SIM but it does not require the dial emergency number and it *CLAIMED* to be working for iPhone 4S Unlock. TPSIM unlocking doesn’t need you to jailbreak iPhone 4S and it also supports 3G, EDGE, MMS and FaceTime.

TPSIM unlock Features:

Plug and play, no jailbreak required
No need to dial 112 after activation
Supports 3G, EDGE, MMS, and FaceTime
SIM Interposer iPhone 4S
Won’t affect your device’s warranty – no hardware modding needing
Robust and sturdy steal custom SIM tray
Unlock works on all world networks
Uses high end original F981 chip for ultra-low energy consumption

TPSIM will be the only unlock solution as of this moment and you can preorder TPSIM card from anywhere for $84.95. Currently, it is available for preorder and they are claiming to ship it by 27th February.

Well, I suggest you to stay away from fake TPSIM unlock for iPhone 4S unless we’ve got any legal testimonials.

Cobra USB Firmware v5.0 and 'mmCM' v04.01.00 (aka) 'multiMAN Cobra Manager'

Team Cobra have been busy at work with their new big update, and it is finally ready for release, this evening they are launching both a new firmware v5.0 for the Cobra-USB dongle, along with a new 'mmCM' v04.01.00, which adds tons of new features, the biggest is network loading of game images from your PC to PS3.
Changelog of Cobra USB Fw 5.0:

- Added support to play ISOs from a PC using network connection. No more waste of time copying between PC and PS3, play directly from the files on your computer!

Requires to run the supplied PS3NETSRV server application (it is inside mmCM 04.01.00 download) on the PC, a version for Windows and Linux is provided. (Mac users can use the Windows version with Wine. NOTE: When using Wine, we recommend to run directly the command line PS3NETSRV.exe and not the GUI).

Currently the following items can be played from network:
  • PS3 isos
  • PSX cue+bin or isos
  • Blu-Ray isos
  • DVD isos

Currently the following items cannot be played from network:
  • PS3 games in JB directory format (planned for 5.1 release)
  • PSP isos (planned for 5.1 release)
  • PS2 isos (planned, but we cannot estimate the version)

Although Cobra doesn't restrict the ISOs from being loaded through WiFi, WiFi is too slow for most uses, we recommend to use a wired connection.

- Optimized a bit the read of PS3 isos (15-20% gain in external disk, not noticeable in internal disk)

- Added dynamic firmware version spoofer capabilities. You can set the spoof in mmCM settings. As Sony release new firmwares, the spoofer can be updated by updating mmCM, without need of updating Cobra USB fw. No system files are modified by the version spoofer, all take place in ram.

Changelog of mmCM 04.01.00:

  • Changed: Nethost PC server application "ps3serv" is replaced by new windows/linux application "ps3netsrv"
  • Added support for playing PS3 and PSX games in ISO/CUE+BIN format from remote net_hosts (PCs connected to the LAN)
  • Added support for playing Blu-ray and DVD-Video movie titles in ISO format from remote net_hosts ! NOTE: For best performance and compatibility of the new net_host interface, a WIRED network may be required (Wi-Fi is also supported) ! NOTE: Root folders served by remote hosts must contain /PS3ISO, /BDISO, /DVDISO and /PSXISO folders to enable remote content
  • Added new option in SETTINGS column: "Network Servers" for setting up to 10 remote nethost IP:PORT values
  • Removed: *nethost* settings from options[_default].ini are ignored and no longer supported
  • Added new option in SETTINGS column: "System Firmware Version" for "spoofing" current FW version to 4.00 or higher
  • Added support for thumbnail images for remote BD/DVD/PS3/PSX ISO/BIN+CUE files (*.jpg / *.png)
  • Added support to copy files from one net_host to another
  • Added support to delete folders from remote net_host
  • Added support to view files in TextViewer from remote net_host folders
  • Added support to copy games and ISO images to remote host from SIDE menu ([TRIANGLE] in XMMB/XBDM/BOARD display modes)
Remember you just need the BASE file before if you upgrading your old 'multiMAN' and it support updating from all versions including the old v2 series, and you can use alot of the new features of 'mmCM' on your normal Jailbroken Sony PlayStation 3 Console without the need of the Cobra-USB dongle.

Update:PS3 4.00 HFW (Hybrid Firmware) v3 Pack

Following up on my previous release, after moja drew to my attention the inconvenience of having to downgrade to 3.55 and re-install a new PUP to get new features in my HFW I tried to look for a solution.

Download: PS3 4.00 HFW (Hybrid Firmware) v3 Pack Update (with XMB Manager 0.09 Beta built into the XMB Mod files)

Making a FW 4.00 compatible PUP was not an option. So I looked for another way. At the moment I'm quite happy with the base firmware of my HFW and the only real thing I would change to add new features would be in the XMB items.

Like new revisions of DeViL303's XMB Manager. So I did some experimenting with the XML files and found it is possible to use resources from external (other than the /dev_flash/) devices. So basically I've modified the XMB read XML instructions from a USB device.

This allows me to port revisions of the XMB Manager, and my 4.00HFW users can simply copy the files to a USB to use the newer version. No downgrade required to use XMB updates. I'm not likely to release another firmware a revision of my 4.00 HFW after this one for a while, unless something BIG comes along.

Instructions to install this PUP:

1. Be on a firmware 3.55 or less
2. Install the .pup through the XMB (Make sure you have a working hardware flasher as there is no other way to downgrade)

Instructions to prepare the XMB Mod for USB:

1. Create a Directory on a USB stick called "XMB"
2. Copy "xmb.xml" from the XMB Mod Package and copy it to the "XMB" directory on your USB stick

Instructions to use the XMB mod with my HFW:

1. Have the USB plugged anytime the XMB is loaded. For instance, when the PS3 is turning on and loading the XMB, or when you quit an application to go back to the XMB.
2. Once the XMB has loaded you can remove the USB stick as it is no longer necessary.

NOTE: The PS3 can operate without the XMB Mods. Not using the XMB Mods on the USB stick will not damage your PS3 in anyway. The only thing that will happen is that the XMB Mods will not show.

Obviously the ability to add items to the XMB is not restricted to the XMB Manager and it's updates, it is capable of adding any item or number items to the XMB provided they are entered into the xmb.xml correctly and are compatible with the relevant .sprx (for instance Network Settings will not work in the Game category as that cannot handle the item class "type:x-xmb/xmlsysconf").

Also I've configured the other categories to read from the xmb.xml too. (Although System Settings cannot be altered, as for some reason the XML file for it, is ignored) It won't be very hard for someone who knows about editing XMB .XML files to figure out how to take advantage of this.

BTW the XMB File Manager, now called the XMB Manager is modification of Team Rebug's "Package Manager", is now a collaboration project, involving DeViL303, Bitsbubba, PS3hen, Andreus , abuser and more! And as such should be credited for the XMB Manager and its progress. The official development page can be found here ps3crunch.net/forum/threads/2431-UPDATED-XMB-Integrated-File-Manager-Beta-v0-06c-%28WIP-POC%29

Just like before only retail signed .PKG can be installed with this. Have fun. THIS HFW WILL NOT ALLOW HOMEBREW!

Change Log:

Version 3:

  • Added the ability to read XML instructions from a usb device plugged in "/dev_usb000/" allowing users to add items to the XMB by modifying an XML file on the USB device.
  • Re-added "Install Package Files" to the XMB so the user is not forced to use XMB mods if they wish to install .PKG files.
  • Note: Still retains the features from previous versions regardless of whether XMB Mods are used or not.

Version 2.5:

  • Fix's Custom Icons/labels not showing in-game
  • Using Version 0.07 of the XMB File Manager (ported to FW 4.00 by me)
  • PSN content waiting to be installed/copied now only shows in the (Playstation Network Content) sub menu of the XMB File Manager (I noticed the XMB File Manager used the wrong internal link to show PSN content so I fixed this)
  • PS2 game discs show as "Playstation 2 Format Disc" instead of "Unrecognised Data" on Non-BC PS3s
  • The XMB File Manager uses a custom icon(see picture)
  • The "Playstation Network Content" now uses a (IMO) better icon

Version 2:

  • Adds "Debug XMB Items" to the XMB Column "PlayStation Network" (contains the Debug items found in this column, originally for DEX)
  • Removes the useless "PlayStation Plus" XMB item from the XMB Column "PlayStation Network"
  • Disables Cinavia DRM on all media except Blue-ray.

Version 1:

  • Adds DeViL303's "XMB File Manager" to the XMB Column "Game"
  • Adds "/app_home/PS3GAME/" to the XMB Column "Game" (has no function at the moment, but is here for completeness)
